NH House Republicans voted to end mandatory vehicle inspections, demanding that you personally maintain responsibility for your vehicle while allowing YOU to retain more of YOUR hard earned income.

The number of states requiring safety inspections has dropped significantly from 31 in 1975 to 13 in 2025. This decline is attributed to states discontinuing programs because beginning in 1980, federal highway funds were no longer tied to state-level mandatory vehicle inspections and increasingly, due to questions about effectiveness of inspection mandates. Literally dozens of studies support the notion that mandatory vehicle inspections do not save lives. Conversely, 100% of studies in 100% of states show that mandatory vehicle inspections cost hard working citizens money. Let me make that a bit more clear: Mandatory vehicle inspections DO NOT improve public safety. Mandatory inspections COST EVERYONE money.

It took NH a while to catch on but republicans finally got the message and passed legislation to eradicate this nonsensical government mandate. This sort of unfunded mandate represents everything bad about government. As long as you send me to Concord, I will support ALL efforts to make sure the laws we have on our books make sense. This one didn’t so we got rid of it.
