\u201cIt is clear to me in many, many discussions that there is a bipartisan acceptance that nuclear is the way to go,\u201d said Rep. John Schneller, a Bedford Republican. \u201cIt\u2019s certainly part of a larger solution.\u201d <\/p>\n
I am quite unconvinced that developing a classic fission reactor at Seabrook Unit 2 will provide the optimal risk-reward benefit to ratepayers in NH for all of the reasons articulated in the attached article. Smaller and more modular units, down to the micro reactor level, in a state the size of NH, with more “pocketed” needs would seem more practical to me. The initial capital costs are far smaller and can be penciled out with a substantially reduced risk profile to investors, rate payers and communities. Other technologies such as subcritical reactors also represent prospectively interesting options for individual ratepayers, communities and the utilities although it remains to be seen if a subcritical unit could be scaled down to the micro reactor level. In my view, increased affordable nuclear power availability is a tide that cannot and will not be held back. <\/p>\n
